Corinne Cater

Principal & Owner, The Cater Firm

Currently based in New York City, Corinne E. Cater, principal attorney at The Cater Firm, focuses on transactional matters for clients in entertainment-related industries. With over 15 years of legal experience and well over 20 years working in the entertainment industry, Ms. Cater is sought after for her counsel on a wide variety of matters including drafting and negotiating new and traditional media talent agreements, brand deals, live performance and recording agreements, and trademark prosecution. Additionally, clients often look to her to guide them in their business development and strategic partnership and planning. In addition to her legal  services, through her consultancy, Cre:ATER LLC, Ms. Cater provides DEI, strategy, and management consulting services to clients in entertainment, education technology, political policy and engagement, and health industries.


Prior to launching her entertainment law practice, Ms. Cater amassed a wide breadth of legal and entertainment industry experience. While at Howard University School of Law, she worked as the legal intern for the House Committee on Homeland Security, reporting directly to both the Staff Director and the Senior Advisor and Counsel. Additionally, at Ian Reid LLC, a DC public relations and strategic communications firm, Ms. Cater reported directly to the Chairman. Upon graduation, she took a position as a litigation associate in a large, Chicago-based firm. There, her practice spanned products and premises litigation, commercial banking, and municipal liability. At the time of her departure from the firm, Ms. Cater’s practice focused on mortgage foreclosure litigation and Section 1983 liability stemming from alleged police misconduct.


Ms. Cater’s return to New York and the launch of her entertainment practice brought full circle her career experience and ambitions. Having worked at two major music label groups prior to law school,


she now leverages her relationships in the entertainment industry and knowledge gained from her experience as a professional dancer to assist clients in a diverse array of endeavors. In addition to her


professional obligations, Ms. Cater is continuing her academic pursuits, studying genealogy at Boston University.
