Endi Piper, Esq.

General Counsel, The Springhill Company

As General Counsel of Complex Media, Inc., a digital media company jointly owned by Hearst and Verizon Communications, Inc., Endi Piper oversees all business and legal affairs for Complex and serves as the company’s Corporate Secretary.  As a part of the senior management team, she advises senior executives on matters including but not limited to corporate transactions, licensing and acquisitions, production, business strategy, corporate governance, privacy, litigation and intellectual property.  

 

Prior to Complex, Piper was the Senior Vice President of Business and Legal Affairs for TV One, LLC, a national cable network that produces original programming for the African American audience.  In this role, Piper oversaw the Business and Legal Affairs, Human Resources, and Rights Clearances/Standards and Practices Departments, as well as provided guidance and oversight for all of the company’s litigation, contractual, and corporate governance obligations. Prior to leading the Business and Legal Affairs department in 2013, she consulted with Radio One, Inc., now Urban One, Inc., supporting the launch of the TV One Network in 2004, and subsequently served as the Director and Vice President of Business and Legal Affairs at TV One.
 
Piper began her legal career at Black Entertainment Television in Business Affairs and transitioned to Production Counsel in Legal Affairs, where she supported the production of original programming and negotiated the majority of the network talent deals. Additionally, prior to joining TV One, Piper was Director of Business Affairs for Scripps Networks Interactive where she guided negotiations for a high volume of programming, acquisition, and licensing deals and oversaw rights and clearances for HGTV, Food Network, and diy Network.


Piper is an active member of the Board of Directors for the Black Entertainment and Sports Lawyers Association (BESLA), which provides legal education and professional development for lawyers, law students and other professionals in the entertainment, sports, and related industries. Through Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA), Piper was an advocate for severely abused and neglected foster children in Prince George’s County, Maryland for many years.  She also taught commercial law to practicing Black lawyers in South Africa and Namibia through the International Seniors Lawyers Project (ISLP) for multiple summers.

 

Piper was recognized by Cablefax as a “Top Lawyer” and as one of the “Most Influential Minorities in Cable.” She was also recognized on InsideCounsel’s R-3 100 list, which highlights rising in-house women lawyers.


Piper received a BA in Spanish Language and Linguistics and a Juris Doctorate from the University of Virginia.  She also completed the coveted Cable Executive Management Program at Harvard Business School.
