Brian K. Broughton, Esq.

Brian Broughton is presently the Vice-President & Associate General Counsel for BET Networks where he is responsible for business and legal oversight on a wide range of matters for the Original Programming and Music & Special Programming Groups. In this position he communicates daily with senior executives in the Original and Music & Special Programming, Live Events, Digital, Media Sales, Finance, Marketing and Corporate Communications departments on various production related matters including but not limited to talent, producers and writers agreements, production deals, co-production deals, development deals, scripted programming, music programming, third party content clearance, current production and finance issues.

 

He is presently overseeing some of the BET Networks scripted, tent-pole specials and reality programs including the likes of the Real Husbands of Hollywood, BET Awards, BET Experience, BET Hip Hop Awards, BET Honors, Celebration of Gospel, Sunday Best, BET Honors, Soul Train Awards and The Players Awards.

 

Before moving to Los Angeles, CA, Brian spent a year at the Networks’ headquarters in Washington, D.C. as Director of Business Affairs advising on programs/shows such as Black College Football, Hits from the Street, Cita’s World, the eight city Star Power Tour and negotiated the largest broadcast license deal for the Continental Basketball Association.

 

Before joining BET, Brian worked an Assistant District Attorney for the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office and worked in the Municipal Court, Juvenile, Narcotics and Forfeiture units. While in Philadelphia, he was also a legal advisor to Juggernaut Music Group. Prior to attending law school, Brian worked as a social worker for a foster care agency in Brooklyn, NY and was a counselor at a New York Social Services facility.

 

A native of Queens, New York, Brian is a graduate of the University of Maryland at College Park and earned his Juris Doctorate from the University of Pittsburgh, School of Law. Brian is a member of the New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania Bars. In addition, Co-Chair of the National Bar Association Entertainment, Sports & Arts Law Section, member of the American Bar Association, the Sports Lawyers Association and the Black Entertainment & Sports Lawyers Association. He is on the board of the West Valley YMCA in Los Angeles, CA. He is also very active in his fraternal organization Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc. and is a mentor to numerous teenagers and young adults.
