In his ninth term in the U.S. House of Representatives from Georgia's Fourth Congressional District – Congressman Hank Johnson has distinguished himself as a substantive, effective lawmaker, and a leading national progressive voice. Named one of the most effective Democrats in Congress by a University of Virginia and University of Vanderbilt study, Rep. Johnson has proven his ability to get things done.


Rep. Johnson is known as a national leader in court reform, including legislation to expand the court (Judiciary Act), require that the justices follow a code of ethics, transparency, and recusal standards (SCERT Act) and establish term limits (TERM Act). His work to protect artists' freedom of speech includes the Restoring Artistic Protection Act (RAP Act) to protect artists from the wrongful use of their lyrics against them in criminal and civil proceedings and as a founding member of the Congressional Hip Hop Power and Justice Task Force.


Prior to taking his seat in Congress in 2006, Rep. Johnson practiced criminal defense law in Georgia for 27 years. He served 12 years as a magistrate judge, and five years as a county commissioner. He is married to DeKalb County Commissioner Mereda Davis Johnson and has two adult children.
