Nyasha Shani Foy, Esq.

Senior Counsel, Corporate and Commercial Transactions, Buzzfeed

Nyasha Shani Foy is a multi-hyphenate business and legal affairs lawyer, and creative. 

Since 2018, Nyasha has served as Senior Counsel, Business and Legal Affairs for Brand Partnerships and Commercial Transactions at Complex Networks. At Complex, she advised and supported a variety of branded content, intellectual property, entertainment, and other company initiatives including ComplexLand, Complex’s immersive virtual marketplace experience, ComplexCon, and Complex B.O.S.S., a twelve-week mentorship program for minority-owned businesses. 

Following Buzzfeed's acquisition of Complex in 2021, Nyasha currently serves as Senior Counsel, Buzzfeed, Inc., working with corporate and commercial transactions across all Buzzfeed brands.

Prior to joining Complex, Nyasha served in various business and legal affairs roles at VICE Media Group and Broadway Video. 

In addition to her day-to-day, Nyasha currently serves on the Board of Trustees, Wesleyan University and the National Black Law Students Association, Northeast Region Advisory Board. She is Secretary for the New York State Bar Association, Intellectual Property Law Section and District Representative for the New York State Bar Association, Entertainment, Arts and Sports Law Section. She is also a member of the soprano section of the New York City Bar Chorus. 

Prior to joining the BESLA Board, Nyasha served as the BESLA Young Lawyers Division Programming Chair (2015 - 2019) and Co-Chair  (2019 - 2022). She also served on the National Black Law Students Association, Northeast Board first, as Director of Membership (2010-2011) and, then as Vice-Chair (2011 - 2012). She was awarded the 2018 Rising Star award by New York Law School’s Black Law Students Association.

In her free time, Nyasha is a freelance writer and frequent speaker on topics ranging from cannabis and entertainment to diversity and social justice.

Nyasha received her B.A. in Music and French from Wesleyan University, and her J.D. from New York Law School. She is admitted to practice in California and New York. Nyasha is also a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority.
