Erin F. Darden

Dear BESLA Conference Committee,
I am a rising third year student at North Carolina Central University School of Law (NCCU) interested in being a part of the Conference Support Team for the Black Entertainment and Sports Lawyers Association’s (BESLA) 35th Annual Conference. I have a strong interest in entertainment law due to my background in performing arts. I attended the Philadelphia High School for Creative and Performing Arts where I was a theater major and a dance minor. I also danced at the Philadelphia School of Dance Arts (PhilaDanco) for several years. My passion for entertainment has continued to cultivate and I have decided to combine my passion for entertainment with my interest in the law. Specifically, I intend to pursue a career in television and film.
I have focused and performed well academically in coursework related to this area. My performance has allowed me to serve as Contracts tutor this school year. As a tutor, I am responsible for assisting a class of approximately seventy students with mastering contract concepts to ensure their academic success. In the fall I will be taking Intellectual Property as well as Entertainment Business Law. Last semester I took Copyright and Music which added to my knowledge and skills. I am currently working on an article that examines the scope of protection of choreographic works under current Copyright Law and whether that protections needs to be expanded. I have been able to use what I learned in the classroom in a practical setting as an intern with the Caldwell Law Firm. As an intern I assisted with redlining and drafting speaker agreements, operating agreements and independent contractor agreements for various
entertainment clients.
I understand that networking is vital to being successful in this industry. I attended BESLA’s 34th Annual Conference last year and made invaluable connections. This year I would like to be a part of the support team to build upon these connections as well as make new connections. I would very much appreciate the opportunity to discuss me being a part of the team. I can be reached by telephone at (267) 575-3604, or email at edarden@eagles.nccu.edu. Thank you for considering my application. I look forward to hearing from you.
