Brandy Owens Domengeaux, Esq.

Professor Brandy Owens Domengeaux is a dynamic powerhouse who brings nearly 25 years of service, a diverse perspective along with a wealth of knowledge, work and lived experience as an attorney, law professor and master, trained educator. She is known for her transformative impact as she cares so deeply about nurturing and preparing our next generation of advocates, leaders, and engaged citizens. Domengeaux skillfully prepares law students for the opportunities and challenges of serving as attorneys and counselors. As a legal writing specialist, CEO and Founder of The Bar Writing Coach, LLC, and a Senior Lecturer of Law at Georgia State University College of Law, she keeps her audience captivated as she designs and facilitates specialized programming centered on legal research, legal writing and analysis and professional development of law students, bar examinees and attorneys.
In her capacity as the CEO and Founder of The Bar Writing Coach, Domengeaux develops, facilitates and engages in 1:1, small group and large group intensive skills-building classes, seminars and workshops on a range of topics, including, but not limited to writing for the bar examination, legal writing and analysis, legal research, professional development, effective/strategic time management, navigating law school and the practice of law successfully. She works to effectively prepare both J.D. and foreign-trained LL.M. examinees for the Multi-State Performance Test (MPT) and Essay portions of the bar examination to improve their likelihood of success. Notably, she has worked with first-time bar examinees who have passed the bar examination by 40 points and worked with repeat takers who have passed the bar examination after increasing their scores by nearly 40 points after working with Domengeaux. Her transformative impact is evidenced by her track record of success.
At Georgia State University College of Law, Domengeaux contributes significantly by serving as a Co-Faculty Advisor for the Ronald J. Freeman, Jr. Chapter of the Black Law Students Association and a Senior Lecturer of Law in the Lawyering Foundations and Professionalism Program. She teaches Lawyering Foundations (Legal Writing and Analysis) to first-year law students and Legal Writing and Analysis to foreign-trained LL.M. students. She pays great attention to detail, as she thoughtfully frames important steps in the learning process to infuse lessons of law practice and professionalism directly into the classroom environment to equip students with the ability to apply skills and utilize resources to prepare them to operate and move more efficiently and effectively in any legal space.
At the College of Law, Domengeaux works directly with students to develop and further hone their practical skills in critical reading, problem-solving, legal analysis and effective written and oral legal communication. She also facilitates Intensive Skills-Building Bar Writing Workshops focused on preparing Georgia bar examinees for the MPT and Georgia Essay portions of the bar examination to improve their likelihood of success. Her commitment to student success is evident as she developed and facilitated writing workshops for the Black Law Students Association and the Southern Region of Black Law Students Association. As part of a partnership between the College of Law and the University of Warsaw, Domengeaux serves as a Visiting Professor in the Center for American Law Studies at the University of Warsaw. Domengeaux developed and facilitates an intensive Legal Writing and Analysis course to introduce students to the basic principles of the U.S. legal system, critical reading, problem-solving, legal analysis and effective written communication.
Prior to joining Georgia State University College of Law, Domengeaux served as an Assistant Professor of Law at Atlanta’s John Marshall Law School in the Legal Skills and Professionalism Program where she taught Legal Writing, Research and Analysis to first-year law students and Pre-Trial Practice and Procedure to upper-level law students. During her tenure at Atlanta’s John Marshall Law School, she developed a seminar course that implemented skills-building and strategies to assist at-risk law students who experienced difficulty in adjusting to the academic rigor and demands of the first-year law school curriculum. Additionally, she taught a Professional and Academic Success Seminar as part of the Academic Support Program where she worked closely with first-year law students to assist in further developing their issue spotting, analytical thinking, and oral and written communication skills to achieve greater success in law school in preparation for the bar examination and the practice of law.
Prior to transitioning into academia, Domengeaux worked as a Litigation Associate in several corporate law firms. She began her legal career at Lightfoot, Franklin & White, LLC, a litigation trial and appellate law firm, in Birmingham, Alabama. As a Litigation Associate, Domengeaux represented foreign and domestic corporations in high exposure civil litigation matters in court and during mediation in labor and employment, product liability, insurance defense, asbestos litigation, and environmental litigation matters.
After practicing law for several years at Lightfoot, Franklin & White, LLC, she moved to Atlanta to practice corporate defense law as Litigation Associate at King & Spalding, LLP. Domengeaux continued to serve as defense counsel representing foreign and domestic corporations in court in asbestos litigation, commercial litigation, environmental and toxic tort litigation and high exposure automotive and pharmaceutical product liability and personal injury cases across the country.
Domengeaux was also an Associate at Greenberg Traurig LLP, where she focused her practice on labor and employment law. Domengeaux represented and provided counsel to business owners and in-house counsel with respect to Title VII and state anti-discrimination cases, retaliation cases, personnel policies, wage and hour compliance, employment agreements and other labor and employment issues.
Domengeaux is a proud HBCU alumna of Winston-Salem State University where she received her B.S. in Elementary Education and Southern University Law Center where she received her J.D., graduated magna cum laude as valedictorian of her law school class and served as the Articles Editor of the Southern University Law Review.
Although Domengeaux’s journey to the law was unconventional as she was an elementary educator prior to transitioning into the legal arena, she was diligent in her pursuit of achieving her life-long dreams of becoming an attorney and educator. Domengeaux has an unwavering commitment and dedication to serving others as she utilizes her unique gifts, skills and talents as both an attorney and educator to positively impact the legal and greater community. She operates with a standard of excellence and implores others to do the same as she lives by the adage, “To whom much is given, much is expected.” Domengeaux is a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and Jack and Jill of America, Inc. She enjoys traveling, music and being mommy to her children, Gabrielle Elise and Braxton Hunter.
