Elke Suber is a senior executive and leader with a passion for issues related to technology, intellectual property, and diversity. As the Assistant General Counsel for Microsoft Stores and its Media and Entertainment division, she leads a global legal team that supports Microsoft’s physical and digital stores around the world, and its relationships with partners like Dell, HP, Lenovo, and the National Football League, and digital content providers like Disney, Sony Music, Universal Music, HBO, Spotify, and Netflix. At Microsoft, Elke has served in a variety of roles, including lead counsel for several of the company's leading consumer products, and lead copyright lawyer for Microsoft’s Interactive Entertainment Business, including Xbox.
Elke is the first African American woman to ascend to the position of Assistant General Counsel at Microsoft. She is the second woman to serve as chair of the board of directors of the Black Entertainment and Sports Lawyers Association – - the first from a corporate background. As a BESLA board member, Elke has been an advocate for ensuring BESLA keeps issues related to intellectual property and digital entertainment at the forefront of its programming. As president and now chair of the board, Elke’s focus has been on refining and strengthening BESLA’s brand, expanding BESLA’s regional programming and ensuring long-term fiscal sustainability.
Elke is a sought-after speaker and has served as speaker for BESLA, the National Bar Association, the American Bar Association, and American Law Institute, among others. Elke has been featured on the cover and in articles in the Corporate Counsel and MCCA’s Diversity and the Bar magazines, as well as the Huffington Post and Rolling Out Digital Magazine. Elke is a 2011 Fellow of the Leadership Counsel on Legal Diversity, and was named one of the NBA and IMPACT’s 2012 Nations Best Advocates: 40 Lawyers under 40.
